This is the first module in 'investigating the Acts of the Apostles'. Each module (and there are 30 of them) will be released on a regular weekly (at least) basis.
I have long been fascinated by the rapid and extensive spread of the Gospel into the known world of during the first Century AD. Jesus died in approximately AD30, but within less than 40 years (Paul was martyred in approx AD67), the Gospel had been taken to the entire Roman Empire and beyond.
As I read the pages of the Acts of the Apostles, I am continually thrilled and challenged by the exploits of ordinary Believers like me as they go beyond the boundaries of where they had called home for their entire lives up to the point when they decided to commit themselves to Jesus and His promises.
These were not men of high birth, not many were well educated but they were, without exception prepared to give their lives for their new-found faith. After all, for the Jews, they gave up Judaism and in many cases their family and friends, and entered a life where they would be persecuted both socially and financially for the rest of their lives. This made no difference to them, and it is thanks to their devotion and tenacity that we should have the opportunity to know Jesus and to become Believers.
Join me as we review what caused these men and women, both young and old alike, religious or not, to give up their safe and secure lives in response to Jesus, the Messiah. Of course, some of the Jews hated what was happening and we read of death and persecution, miracles and salvation in a fast-moving and exciting set of live events. Join me in discovering our inheritance! |
