How much should you invest in a pension is a tricky question and the answer needs to take a number of factors into consideration. A pension may need to last you for 20 years of retirement, and how much you should invest will come down to the lifestyle you wish to have in those 20 years. Another factor regarding how much to invest will be the age at which you started your pension. What size fund or ‘pot’ will I need?
When you reach the age at which you want to be financially independent, or the date at which you ‘retire,’ a good indicator as to the size your pension pot should be is approximately the same value
as a family home. This may sound ominous, but those who live in more expensive family homes, will need a larger pension fund. |
